Cuba Debate Network reported on October 16th that Diaz, the head of renewable energy projects in Cuba, recently revealed that the country's photovoltaic plan has been rapidly advancing since two parks were connected to the grid in March this year. As of now, 32 photovoltaic parks and 3 donated parks have been built nationwide, contributing a total installed capacity of 715 megawatts and exceeding the annual plan. The above-mentioned photovoltaic facilities have generated a total of 429.3 gigawatt hours of electricity, replacing 111000 tons of fossil fuels, accounting for 9% of the country's daily power supply. Currently, 19 new photovoltaic parks are under construction, with an expected increase of 415 megawatts of installed capacity within the year. The four supporting energy storage systems will solve the problem of power fluctuations.
The 120 MW solar photovoltaic equipment project assisted by the Chinese government will be implemented in two phases: the first phase includes 7 parks that are nearing completion, of which 3 have been connected to the grid, and the remaining 4 are planned to be put into operation in October; The second phase of 15 parks with energy storage systems will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
