Morocco Launches Africa's First Floating Photovoltaic Power Plant
According to Morocco 360 Information Network on September 22, Africa's first floating photovoltaic power plant was officially launched at the Oued Rmel Dam, adjacent to the Tangier-Mediterranean port.
The project, spearheaded by the Moroccan Ministry of Equipment and Water Resources and implemented by the Oued Loukkos Water Authority in collaboration with several public and private institutions, comprises approximately 22,000 photovoltaic panels covering 10 hectares of water. The power plant not only provides continuous clean electricity to the port of Tangier but also effectively reduces evaporation from the reservoir, achieving both economic and ecological benefits. This project marks a new breakthrough in Morocco's use of renewable energy and solidifies Morocco's leading position in solar energy utilization in Africa.
