The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has launched prequalification applications for 5.3 GW of new renewable energy generation capacity, of which 3.1 GW will be solar.

As part of the prequalification process, SPPC will select suppliers, contractors, and equipment providers to deliver five solar projects approved for deployment under the program: two projects in the Tarbajal portfolio, totaling 1.4 GW; the 600 MW Mawqaq project; the 600 MW Tathleeth project; and the 500 MW South Al Ula project.

SPPC will also select applicants to deliver two wind power projects: the 1.3 GW Blighah wind project and the 900 MW Shagran wind project. The company plans to select the winning applicant by September 29th of this year.

This application is part of the seventh tender round of Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). The program has already signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) for more than 38 GW of renewable energy generation capacity, aiming to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix from 0.5% in 2022 to more than 30% by the end of the century.
